That's right, it's that time of year for us to start releasing all of the info for the Anime North Chess Game!!! After last year's sucsess with our 'theme' battle (re: Sailor Moon Chess) we're returning this year with Pokemon!!

(for those of you uninterested in Pokemon or don't have a Pokemon cosplay don't worry! We are having more than one game once again this year, keep an eye out for those to pop up!)
We encourage everyone in the game to be as in character as you want, or don't want, just know that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it 
So what is Cosplay Chess:
Cosplay chess is a form of chess in which people take the place of pieces. While many human chess games are choreographed stage shows that isn't the case with the Anime North games. We don't know what's happening until the game masters move the pieces!
What info do we have so far (not a lot right now keep checking for updates!):

F.A.Q.
1. How do I join!?
Joining is super easy! See that form up in the first post ^. Just copy and paste it into a post, fill in the required information, and post! Voila if the spaces are open you've got a spot!
2. Am I guaranteed the spot I ask for?
No. We used to do 'first come first serve' however with this themed bored we try to have players spaced out to go with the flow, though we do keep it in mind an try our best to be fair.
3. So... it's a game?
It's a game, a story, a larp, and improve all wrapped up in one! You don't really have to know Chess rules (Vessa and I don't really!), and you don't have to be an actor, you just need to have fun
4. Are props and weapons allowed?
Yes, within reason. All props and weapons MUST be tagged by one of the Anime North Weapon's Masters to be allowed on the board. If we don't see a tag your weapon will unfortunately be confiscated as it is against the convention's rules.
5. Can I bring a Yaoi paddle?
NO. Yaoi paddles are banned from Anime North.
6. Can I have a pokemon with me on the board?
Yes you absolutely can! It can be a plushie, a figure, or another person!!
7. Do I have to be a trainer?
No. You can be whatever you want from Pokemon. A trainer, villain, or a pokemon itself!
8. People can join in off the board?
This is something we started last year for the Sailor Moon game, in an attempt to get more people involved. There are a few scenarios that can involve someone being INVITED onto the board, all of these scenarios happen during the battle sequence.
A Pokemon is to battle and has no trainer with them on the board. They may choose a person from the audience to act as their trainer and guide them through the battle sequence.
A trainer is in battle and has no pokemon!! The trainer can then choose a person from the audience to play as their pokemon during the battle sequence
A trainer or Pokemon are in battle and they have a partner as another chess piece on the board, that other piece may -temporarily- join the other to complete the battle sequence.
A trainer or Pokemon are in battle and they have a friend/partner who is on the sidelines, they may be called to the battle to assist them in the battle sequence.
They seem a bit confusing, but I promise we will go over this at the game
9. Can I be in multiple games?
No. We add the extra games each year so that more and more people have the chance to be a part of the games. In the wise words of the Grail Knight "You must choose wisely"

Rules:
King - can only move 1 space in any one direction
Queen - can move any number of spaces in any one direction
Rook (the castle) - can move any number of unobstructed spaces in a straight line (up or down, left or right)
Bishop (the hat) - can move any number of unobstructed spaces in a diagonal line
Knight (the horse) - can move 4 spaces in an L shape, if unobstructed, in any one direction
Pawn (little guy in front of the rest) - can move up to 2 spaces on first movement (forward only), and 1 space afterwards. Can only take out another pieces by diagonal death.
Check - the King -must- be moved or another piece must take out the offending piece that has put the King in jeopardy.
Check Mate - the King has no avenue of escape, either by himself, or by another. Game over!
FIGHT SCENES: No contact! We don't want to get in trouble by the Weapons Masters, by AN itself, or anyone who gets injured and blames us. Props are welcomed, just remember, NO CONTACT! We will go over how the fight scenes work at the time of the game (it's sort of weird to put it in writing, showing just works better)
Foul language will not be tolerated, so don't have a potty mouth.
You may have to stand for extended periods of time. We don't care if you sit down on the board, if your legs get tired all costumes however MUST have shoes for health and safety reasons.

In addition to the teams this year there is an added bonus of possibly being randomly selected from the audience to battle as a pieces' pokemon (if they don't have a pokemon of their own) or to be a pokmemon's trainer (if they also don't have one!).

Absolutely you can Depending on the popularity you may even have a friend dressed as your pokemon join you either on the board or from off the side lines for your battles. And yes if people sign up for it they can be removed off list if they can no longer commit to the game.
