Hm, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm disappointed and frustrated that I didn't get a table, especially since I was really looking forward to having one, and it's saddening to see other veterans like myself also not getting tables, but in some way this may also bring some fresh faces to Nomi? I do agree with the sentiment that the time period applications are open should be shortened though if the lottery system is maintained for future years.

A big thanks to you, Chris McKenna, and your entire team that helps with the the entire event. I've only participated in one Nominoichi and I really appreciate all the works that goes into organizing this event.
I was unfortunately one of the ones that did not get a table this year but am still excited that the turnout was good again. Although I have a biased opinion, I would still like to express that I felt the previous method of tables seemed smoother to me personally. I don't think trying a different method is necessarily a bad idea because we would never know if a better system is out there.
After reading a few of the other posts I think it might be worth considering a poll after this Nominoichi on which method people prefer. But that's just my thoughts on it. Again a big thank you to all your staff and you for organizing a great event, I'll look forward to attending as a buyer!

Perhaps next year return sellers could be asked ahead of time if they would like to return first. So they can get a table they will make good use of and buyers won't be disappointed to see a seller they like not return?

Hi Chris, how do we add sellers to our table? The mikemike site form can't be changed anymore.

Honestly, if the lottery system is used again next year, I'm probably just going to skip the event entirely. I think it's incredibly unfair that sellers who have been supporting the event for years lost out to random chance, and I personally have no interest in supporting that.

Wow, a lot of questions and comments. I'll try to take them in order
1) The Standby list was also selected randomly and at the same time as the table list. For now it's on hold until I finish sending out email to the people with tables. It's hard to say how many people get moved from the stand-by list to the table list. Some years it's only 1 or 2, other years it's many more. We'll all have to wait and see what happens this year.
2) 'Next to' requests are never guaranteed. However, in cases where they were done correctly, and those people did get tables, then we were able to put you together. It was a complex part of the process but in total we have 20 'next to' groups across 46 tables.
3) Once you get the email with your table number (NOT the application ID number listed above) then yes, you can start to post your table listing.
4) I'm not sure if reducing the application period next year would yield a better result. From our end, it was very helpful to have a little extra time to assist those who had difficulty with the application process. Anyway, it's too early to decide what to do in 2020. Our attention is focused on doing the best Nominoichi we can this year.
With that said, your feedback is always appreciated and welcomed. We will once again have threads set up for post-event comments and suggestions and if you want a direct voice to shape next years event, that's a fantastic place for us to hear it.
5) Once you get a "table letter" with your table number, then if you want to add, remove, or change a seller at your table please just email me. However, please wait until next week, right now I'm still sending out the rest of the email.

tbh we need fresh faces at the nomi and this way was totally fair, imo. It's not fair for people to send applications right on the dot and suddenly get in. Applying early =/= passion for the event
edit: plus you can't really judge whether someone "applied on a whim" or not... maybe they wanted to apply for years but never had the chance to. I don't think it's fair to make that call, and even if it was on a whim, it's still the fairest way. There's always next year guys!

I think this was the best way to do it. i see alot of people upset because "long-time" sellers didn't get a table. i think people have forgotten that this is not a dealers room. It's people selling extra stuff NOT new stuff or things they have gotten For this. Really i have sold before but not every year. so really there shouldn't be alot of "long-Time" sellers. This i believe is the most fair way of everyone getting a chance.

How does being a longtime seller = treating the place as a Dealers Room? What it says to me is that they consistently leave Nomi with enough stuff to try and sell the next year.

they consistently leave Nomi with enough stuff to try and sell the next year. (whispers) that's a sign that no one is buying it/wants it...
Either that or they consistently are replenishing their stock by buying new things for the sake of flipping/reselling at nomi. -- I agree with f-bunnys though. (lol does the board not have a username filter) This is our 3rd year and although I walked out last year with a few thousand dollars, it was barely half of what we made the year before. Seller's hoards of stuff should be depleting over the years, and although I do add new stuff to the mix every year as I try to control my compulsive buying, I'm definitely slowly running out of "high demand" items like popular figures, toys, games, etc. I think I may try again next year, but eventually I am just going to turn to donating the leftover stuff that clearly are not selling. Although I definitely was one of the seller who was super scared of NOT getting a table, and although I was initially one of the first people to speak up against the idea (and supporting the fact that long-time sellers are more committed), over time I have warmed up to this system. I can see it's pros. Fresh faces != undedicated sellers. They might be more dedicated than long-time sellers. Fresh faces == new stuff to sell! more friends & people! sharing the nomi fun (and anxiety) with all of AN's population. Fresh faces == new opportunities, new ideas for nomi & the con's overall growth.

they consistently leave Nomi with enough stuff to try and sell the next year. I do see the same sellers with the same items year after year that they can't sell. Sure, they have new stuff mixed in and you might find a newbie to Nomi who has been looking for that item, but a lot of what I see is returning sellers with random volumes of manga, cheap looking figures/open blindboxes of characters no one wants, and honestly just some overpriced junk. (Cheap knockoff figures, magazines no one's interested in etc.) I've seen a lot of stuff that is just better off being donated than hauled back and forth to AN year after year. Honestly I do see how it sucks for people who have had tables year after year to not get one this time (especially when I have some faves where I get super excited to see what they have listed!), but at the same time I am looking forward to seeing new sellers and new items up for sale. Seeing the same items year after year is kind of frustrating/boring. It's nice to change it up and give others a shot at selling too. I sold at Nomi two years in a row and it was enough to clear out my unwanted stuff. By the end of the night the second year I was giving stuff away basically because I just wanted it gone. It's crazy to me that people continuously accumulate enough stuff over one year to return consistently (and to sell enough to make thousands like one person said is just... wow).

(and to sell enough to make thousands like one person said is just... wow). (ಥ﹏ಥ) goes to show how bad my compulsive spending was trying to konmari this poop away man but yeah between the both of us, my boyfriend & i have a lot of lolita & games which sell for a lot despite small space (some of his stuff he's collected for over 10+ years! he worked at a game store when he was in HS). i'm making my list right now and i'm already like oh man no wonder these things didnt' sell last year lol... -- Also wanted to add on: Long time sellers != dedicated sellers! From poking around, I feel like some sellers are doing nomi for the fun of it, because it's become a ritualistic/habitual part of their AN, etc. I think new sellers might even be more dedicated! I remember my first year in 2017 I was like SUPER keener. Since it was my first time I was really serious about the whole process, the board, organizing my time, etc.

As someone who's into the BJD hobby, I definitely understand small items can still be worth a ton, but to consistently make this kind of money is just.... mind blowing LOL. I did my clearout at Nomi and then got a lot choosier about what I bought... I still have impulse buys but I just sell stuff online now as it's a lot easier than hoarding for a year LOL. Maybe in the future the space for Nomi will expand and there will be more room for sellers... I mean, looking at the acceptance rate it was not bad overall! Nomi is my fav event and I hope to see it keep growing.
