I understand the concern that dealers may be sneaking into the Nominoichi, but I don't feel it's as big a problem as people might expect. There are a few reasons why... First: The Nominoichi has very limited hours, it's only open for 3 1/2 hours on Friday night. As a result, it is very difficult to generate the volume of sales needed to make a trip to Anime North profitable for a professional dealer. Assuming they were only coming to Anime North participate in the Nominoichi. Second: We do not allow sellers with a "Dealers" badge to participate in the Nominoichi, so dealers that already have a table in the dealers room would also have the additional cost of buying a Friday only membership to reserve a single smaller table. Third: The Nominoichi ( and every other event) is smaller than the Dealers room and draws less traffic. When you compare the cost to operate per hour, and factor in the reduced traffic and selling area on the table, professional dealers realize that if you already have a dealers room table then you wouldn't want to waste the resources on a Nominoichi table. They'll earn more by keeping staff and merchandise in the Dealers room. And Fourth: The buyers at the Nominoichi expect and assume all merchandise to be used, and sold as-is. Consequently Nominoichi customers will not pay full price for supposed new items at the Nominoichi if they could just go to the dealers room and get the same thing that is actually new. Nominoichi buyers will factor quality and rareness when considering items to buy but not it's 'newness '. Therefore any dealer who chooses to ignore these reasons will quickly discover that if they want to sell anything at the Nominoichi they will have to offer fair used prices!

Unlike the unfair mark up, they tried to pull on the Dealers floor, not really understanding that people come to conventions to get deals on stuff like manga, and various anime merchandise, first year I never bought anything because I felt they were trying to rip me off. I ended up spending my dealers fund in the Nominoichi saying screw that nonsense BS. I know the economy was in the shitter during last years convention, but that would make it a better idea to make people feel like they are getting a good price so they would spend more, make up for the mark down by volume of sales. people should boycott the dealers floor if they try that again this year.

I think quite a few people take trips to Japan and bring back a lot of stuff for people who might not be able to get otherwise. So I don't think they are necessarily dealers/sellers or at leasy dealers/sellers on a large scale. So we're dealing with scalpers instead of dealers. much better.

Just curious, will tables be up for grabs soon? We have to make sure there's enough time, after all, for sellers to secure tables and post what they're selling and take reservations and whatnot.

I ended up spending quite a bit of money at the nominoichi last year and ended up with the biggest haul I have ever had at a convention in the 10 years I have been going to Anime North, I hope they announce table availability soon then I can see what is on offer this year, So I can start reserve shopping.

Judging from the dates on emails I have gotten in previous years, it will not be until mid-April when table reservations will be available, and that has been plenty of time for people to post lists and make reservations for items. Rules and info will likely be posted in the next couple weeks so everyone knows what's what and the exact date when table reservations open. So we're dealing with scalpers instead of dealers. much better. while not necessarily the case its not really a bad thing. if someone bought something for $1 and it was worth $30 and they sold it for $10 then everybody is still winning. importing those items from japan which they brought back would have cost you significantly more than whatever they would charge you and if it is cheaper online then just ignore the table. Agreed. In my experience, most of the sellers who have brought items from Japan, they sell them at reasonable prices, often at the price they were bought at or a little extra (to possibly compensate for shipping or exchange). Most of these sellers simply wish to make merchandise more accessible to more people. Also, in the case of people buying sets or blind boxes, they sell extras or characters they're not interested in to others who would appreciate them more. As I've been a seller for the past few years, my observations are mainly limited to the lists posted here since I do not have time to wander the tables myself, but I have seen very few instances of jacked-up prices as scalpers frequently like to do.

I agree, the Nominoichi has proven far better, IMO, than the Dealers Room in recent years. The DR has a lot of jacked up prices and not much variety and lately I find myself spending very little money or time in there. I might go in for some snacks, something from The Littlest Gift Boutique, maybe pick up an artbook or a blind box figurine or something, gawk at figurines and swords I can't afford and bad anime and manga I'm amazed ever made it to North America and then I'm out. Meanwhile, I'm over in the Nomi on Friday night getting a huge haul of awesome loot for bargain prices, complete with the advantage of being able to reserve what I want via this site! Last year, I got a few figurines of various types, one of them a Rainbow Dash autographed by Ashleigh Ball, a few plushies, a PokeBall DS card case that was only ever given out at a Pokemon X and Y launch party, some buttons, a ton of cards, one of them a Rukia card autographed by Michelle Ruff, a Pokemon DVD autographed by Veronica Taylor, Animal Crossing and Homestuck prints, several posters, two of them rare promotional items, Taiwan postcards, a Summer Palace souvenir and a ruler. Total cost? About $100. The Nominoichi is quite frankly the best thing to happen to my wallet at Anime North.

On a side note, if the Dealers are a problem for you in any way its the fact that some will go into nominoichi and buy out entire tables of stuff from sellers that they know they can resell it at in the Vendor room

First I've heard of that. I recall one person last year or the year before that offered to buy up the stock of several tables here on the forum, but they were quickly banned for being an obvious scammer/troll. Considering the majority of the stuff at Nomi is used, I have to wonder how well that sort of strategy works out for them.

I had a table last year. I sold one of my unopened box figures. Next day, I found it in the dealers room. I know it was mine coz I remember all the dents and scratches on the box.

I'd have to agree with Joey and I lucked out in getting some really nice stuff last year that I would have had to pay a lot more or wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. Scalpers generally sell their goods at a much higher price because of it's demand and desperate people will pay for it. I got my stuff at very reasonable prices.

I don't know how you guys didnt know they did that, there are several vendors who sell nothing but opened toys. there is this one vendor table every year that asks $30-80 each on gashapon (and people still pay their horrible prices) and alot of them they grab from the Nominoichi. they also charge WAY more thant they should be because no matter which one i pointed out it was all overpriced crap that i have bought in bulk lots of 100 gasha for 9000yen
and I dont think they knew what they were doing because i pointed to an Aschnard (Bastard) figure an he said $50 then i pointed out Rider (Fate) and he said $30... pretty sure aschnard may be uncommon but i literally looked on ebay and showed him it selling on average $5-10, thats when it sold since Bastard isnt popular

Oh yeah, don't get me started on that guy. He seems to be at every con in Toronto, asking $50 for some random anime figurine no bigger than my middle finger. Which I'm about ready to show him the next time I hear him ask an outrageous price for used gashapon toys that sometimes aren't even in good condition.
