Hi, I'm sorry if this isn't appropriate or the right section to ask but I was wondering if there's gonna be any changes to the number of hours volunteers and panelists have to do in order to be reimbursed for a con pass?
I mentioned this last year in the feedback section, that a lot of people were put off from volunteering and registering as potential panelists due to the requirements being too high in comparison to other cons. I feel it's worth mentioning again, especially with the new Ontario minimum wage going up and last year's somewhat limited programming content that was available.
I understand that Anime North is a non-profit organization that relies on the support of it's volunteers, but I feel that reducing the number of required panels/presentations a volunteer has to do in order to be reimbursed a weekend pass would be beneficial. That is to say, the pros would outweigh the cons. Specifically, we'd have more people registering to become panelists, increasing the pool of potential panelists and offer a wider breath of content for Anime North's programming.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but I have to disagree. Anime North is a massive convention, with an attendance of over 30,000 and as you said, it's a non-profit. The costs of running such a massive event are rather high, yet the weekend registration price has not risen much over the years. If they were to reduce the number of volunteer hours needed to get a free badge, well... It could end up being more difficult to cover all the costs.
Although to be fair, I don't know the exact numbers.

The two factoids are in fact unrelated.
Fingers.
