Since there's always at least 1 or 2 of these every season, it might be worth a panel... presumably the genre is fairly popular.
If we wanted, we could add a humorous (or practical?) twist, listing things to do or not to do if audience members ever find themselves in the situation.
Anyone interested?

I like the idea, but the thread name too long. What about "Guide to Video Game Isekai"?

there was a discussion to have a panel like this last year! I'd def be interested cuz .hack//twilight was my intro to manga like 10 years ago
Are there any specific series/tropes that you were thinking about discussing?

My first assumption was that it could perhaps be the name of a video game... Had to look it up myself; the term sounded familiar but I didn't recall what it means, and it's Japanese for "different world" and in the context of tropes, is basically the idea of someone being transported to a new world/parallel universe/what-have-you and needing to find a way back home or make themselves at home there. So for example, series like No Game No Life and Escaflowne are isekai series. Video game isekai is therefore a subtrope of that, where characters get stuck in a video game setting, like SAO and .hack.

I do however watch a lot of these shows, although I dropped OP teenager with a smartphone right fast. I'm at episode 4 for Death March. We'll see how it goes.

I think I could have handled Death March if the animation wasn't so crappy (in my opinion). I like the plot but I believe one of my friends is reading the light novel, so I get story details from them.
Its too bad that the second season of Log Horizon and first season of Overlord weren't the greatest (in my opinion), compared to their other season, and that SAO ended up having so many plot holes and issues that it is almost universally panned.

I agree the animation is crappy. Lucky there isn't many action scenes so it doesn't suffer too horribly in that regard. I also agree about LH and Overlord (we agree on a lot!)... although of the two I preferred Overlords first season. Log Horizons second season left me rather disappointed considering how good the first season was. And yes, SAO is uh, full of issues. I liked the first season regardless just for how fun it was - but it went downhill from there imo. D: Grimgar of Fantasy and ash was great though, but i'm not sure if it counts under Isekai? AFAIK they don't make it explicit?

I'd say Grimgar counts, since it's pretty clear they have lingering memories from this world, and their world has game mechanics. Unless the original material says otherwise.
I still like SAO overall even though the Fairy Danxe arc can die in a fire. The movie was good fun too. Since the Gun Gale spinoff is written by another author, I have hope that it won't suck as much. I just wouldn't want to be stuck in the SAO game since the mechanics are horrible, so it seems even easier to die.
There were some manga I was reading years ago that had people's consciousness turned into NPCs. Yureka is one, but I don't remember the name of the other; the main character is a girl with a male avatar and her pet is a meat bun. I think this series would count in a "people being experimented on" kind of way.
