I did this presentation last year, and it went really well overall, had a lot of fun. I'm thinking of doing it again, primarily to update and give more context as more info and context comes out. I'm hoping to do a presentation like last year, but I'm good with a panel as well.
To give more context, the panel is hoping to cover some general basics:
- Tenii, Tensei, Shoukan - Brief historical outline transitioning from survival-types and keitai-shousetsu to online publishing platforms - Syosetu (this is my main wheelhouse) - Alien works
Into some more broader and complex stuff:
Related but non-essential components like: - original senki, ikai, computer types, dungeon-kei - the role of writing awards - (potentially) the role of distinct publishing platforms between places like Kakuyomu and Syosetu

I'm hoping to do a presentation like last year, but I'm good with a panel as well. I would be interested in being a panelist for this! I'm generally cool with co-panelists, I think that's a good idea. I do want to mention though that I treat the subject very seriously from a cultural anthropological and sociocultural standpoint. Like, this is my specialty. So the game plan is to cover some really basic stuff like: - Tenii, Tensei, Shoukan, etc. - Shousetsuka ni Narou (syosetu, "Let's become a Novelist") - Uchuujin Mono (Alien works) But also then talk about some more complex stuff: - its futures - some related but not isekai things - original senki, ikai, survival-types, computer types / dennou sekai, dungeon-kei) - difference between platforms like kakuyomu versus syosetu - writing awards and their effect on storytelling - protocol logic (ala Alexander Galloway) My game plan is not to run a "Let's gush about isekai," but to get people up and running with a working understanding of the vocabulary and socioeconomic forces that generate isekai in Japan. If you're familiar with isekai along those lines, I'd love to work with you.

I did a bachelor degree on East Asian Study focused on Japanese culture a while back and my approach to the topic is in the same optic as yours. I'm more interested in what makes Isekai tick and sharing the knowledge more than gushing about particular Isekai. If you feel like I could contribute, I would be glad to participate. I didn't know this was more than comparing and contrasting isekai series. Thank you for thr detailed explanation. Gotcha, sorry about that. Yeah, it's a fully-fledged presentation with a lot of digital ethnography, sources, lit review, everything. That's what I did last year. It's closer to a standard lecture than anything, although obviously light-hearted and simplified enough so anyone with any level of knowledge can come in and (hopefully!) enjoy it.

No need to apologize. I didn't attend last year's presentation. It sounds even more interesting to me, now that I have a better idea.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, it's an addition to the content from last year, but it'll be also for people just getting into the subject. That's the game plan, been talking a lot of the authors more this year.

How does it work to register for an existing panel, is it the same as registering for a new one?
