Despite its outward appearance as a modern, secular state, Japan and Japanese culture have deep spiritual roots that have been shaped by religious expression and institutions throughout its history. The panel will discuss the ways in which anime, manga and other popular Japanese media reflect these religious themes.

I have a bit more of familiarity through the augmented reality + religiosity side (ala Jolyon Baraka Thomas' shuukyo asobi), so while strict religious lore is something I'm not overly familiar with, I can speak on some level to its politics and ongoing socioeconomic elements, if you'll have me.

The mythology side of things will likely be covered more in-depth in a seperate panel, so no worries there.
This is precisely the sort of perspective that would make for an interesting and informative panel! (And another book for the pile)
If you'd like to register, the panel name is the same as the thread title.
Pending panel approval, we can always tweak the name later.

I'm a bit more familiar on the seichijunrei+butaitanbou kinda edge, and my secondary interest is in apocalyptic cults and rhetoric (so stuff like Aum Shinrikyo and the shin-shinshuukyo), so hopefully this adds in some way somehow.
