So... I have a confession to make: I am a huge nerd and I have submitted a bunch of legit academic (ie/secondary or post-secondary school) assignments based on anime. I thought it might be fun to have an opportunity to share in this experience with other people who found ways to work hard and play hard at the same time.
Potential description: Ever "made the grade" based on your impeccable knowledge and in-depth analysis of... anime? Share your experiences with like-minded students who owe that A+ to anime.

I used an Asimov Robots novel in a litterature(mystery) college class.

I'm actually wrapping up my master's right now and my research is on anime! Gonna register for this right now -- I think I could help provide a detailed perspective with what I've been working on and what I've learned/who I've met over the past few years. Really cool panel idea!

Interesting idea!
I tend to be more on the fan studies side of things than the actual anime side these days, and while I will gladly proselytise fan studies any day, it's skirting on being out of scope for this directly. (I also haven't been a student for a while, though I do some production editing for a fan studies academic journal, among other things.)
Thus, I'll probably hold off on signing up just yet, in case someone a little more in-scope is interested, but if you end up needing more people, I'll definitely consider joining in.

I think this is still really applicable and would add some great (and probably much needed with how much fan culture plays into anime in a way it doesn't for many other forms of media) perspective to what we might offer at the moment! Regardless, I hope you get to drop by anyway -- always nice to network.

Is there still room on the panel? My Disability Studies essays so far have been pretty nerdy/geeky and I show no sign of slowing down. It's more geeky than just anime, but yeah.

Hi All,
so happy to see some real interest on this panel! It hasn't been approved yet, so if anyone has more ideas to share, please feel free to sign up!
Just wondering if we'd like to start sharing some thesis statements that we have used to help shape our discussion and plan ahead for specific topics to cover (ex/what courses/academic endeavours we have used these theses for, etc.)
Also even if you haven't written something yourself but there's a cool anime/geeky reference in something in your academic field, please feel free to share about this!
I'm a huge fan of Google Docs but happy to use any method of communication that people prefer.
