lets talk about death. character deaths, how death is portrayed in different genres of anime, portrayal of funerals and death-related mythology in anime. i would love to talk about this kind of stuff in depth. i wont make this an 18+ panel because this is not a panel that talks about gorey anime deaths but rather why some chrarcters had to die, what kind of death- related legends are portrayed in these anime series (such as the deathnote lore and Death from soul eater).
i took an anthropology course about death and i think it would be very interesting to see other people talking about this as well.

death is a majpr theme in a lot of anime. it impacts character building and storybuilding as well. i think that representation and portrayal of death is so big in anime and manga but no one talks about it unless they are taslking about their favourite characters dying (no shame about that. i just want to unpack it all)

Thanatology is really neat, but I'm already at my limit for panels right now. ;_;

That sounds super cool. I'd love to join this and talk in comparison on human grief, but also how impactful death in anime is overall.

Too good of an idea to pass on.
There is a lot to unpack from a cultural perspective; Japanese attitudes towards death, both historic and contemporary, religious motits and mythological themes, funerary rites, that dead parent hole mangaka keep chucking protagonists parents into...

Hmmm...interested! I've worked a lot with the dying and with the people who are left grieving. How we deal with death as a society really is fascinating, although of course this is more from a typical North American perspective. I'd had to look up some Japan-specific perspectives/traditions/beliefs to brush up on my knowledge in that realm, though.
