Hi everyone!
I am hoping that this panel can return for another year of great discussions.
Name: Fans In The Professional Workplace
Section: Meta
Description: A panel for professionals who are into anime and manga. Let's discuss how to handle being a fan, how some are viewed when it's revealed, and more!
Looking for: people who have experienced dissonance between their "professional" persona at work and their fan-related activities outside of work, and ways that this dissonance has impacted their life. We also sometimes delve into ways that we have made our fan-related activities work for you (creating the "AniResume" if you will), which is pretty neat!

When I first started this panel, I was purposely looking for folks who weren't in traditionally geeky professions like IT. Have you found that this restriction isn't beneficial anymore?

When I first started this panel, I was purposely looking for folks who weren't in traditionally geeky professions like IT. Have you found that this restriction isn't beneficial anymore? I think the definition of "traditionally geeky" is shifting massively over time and therefore it would be difficult to classify professions using this term, if that makes sense? And many professions may fall into a similar category but be hugely divergent in working environments and attitudes (e.g. within IT there are many environments that might be "geeky" or "geek-friendly" but there may be many others that are not); this diversity is one of the things that makes this panel so interesting!

That's good to hear. I stopped applying for this panel once I moved into a tech team and was surrounded by geeks that openly talk about video games and anime.

I'm up for joining this again. As the organizer of Pretty Heroes, my fandom experience is a little different than some fans. But I do also have a day job in marketing/graphic design. I work at an engineering company and some people are kind of intrigued by convention culture there, but most of them do not attend cons.
