From off in the distance, a strange visitor arrives at the Anime North marketplace. Quickly approaching is a red gypsy wagon with a dark green roof, decorated with Japanese paraphernalia and flashy painted designs and pulled by a pair of chocobos, light smoke puffing out of its steel chimney and a trio of flags (Canadian, Ontarian and Japanese) flying from the roof's back end. Tinted windows on its front and sides apparently provide the only way whoever's inside can see where the birds are taking them, without allowing anyone outside an uninvited glance in. Below the front window is a square opening with a tiny counter, a yellow desk bell fixed to it. A hand reaches out and rings the bell, disappearing back into the wagon just as quickly, and the chocobos slow to a stop, allowing the wagon to undergo a change. It detaches from their harnesses, letting them wander off to rest nearby, and positions itself in an open marketplace spot as if by magic--which it is, of course, as the wagon's special functions are all fuelled by pure Anime North magic. Its wheels retract into itself as it lowers to the ground, two ornate black railings unfold in the back, and a little staircase pops out between the railings, leading to a door with a small window covered from inside with a fancy wine-red curtain. As the sun starts getting lower in the sky, paper lanterns hanging and swinging in the evening breeze on the corners of the wagon's roof light up on their own. Flyers now clearly visible on the wagon state such things as "EVERYTHING MUST GO!", "BARGAIN TIME!" and "HAGGLERS WELCOME!", the small bells and wind chimes displayed on it can be heard more clearly, and those nearby detect the scent of fast food coming from inside it. A neon sign set up between the door and the flags turns on, displaying the shop's name in bright pink with an animated maneki neko ringing a yellow desk bell, showing a recurring theme. Someone lifts the curtain just the slightest bit and peeks out at the gathering crowds of the marketplace before lowering it and rummaging around noisily. A few minutes later, the door opens, and out steps a big guy in steampunk goggles and a funny hat, pulling along a handcart full of goods to sell and carrying a large messenger bag. He lays out the merchandise, a cash box and another now-familiar yellow desk bell on his part of the sales table his wagon parked behind. After setting everything up, giving a "brb" signal and speed-walking off with shopping bags to pick up more stuff for his ever-growing collection, he returns with his haul, stashes it inside the wagon (which is clearly much bigger inside than it looks outside), carefully sits down and pulls a bottle of water out of his messenger bag, enjoying a sip of it just before the whistle and firework signals for the marketplace to officially open. He removes his goggles, rings his desk bell, looks up at his potential customers with a friendly smile and says...
Hello, everyone! Welcome to the Yellow Bell Caravan! :3
After an unfortunate absence caused by terrible circumstances last year, the caravan is returning for its fourth year at Nominoichi, this time at table N248! I hope that although I have a smaller selection of goods than most other vendors, some of you can find something that catches your interest and give it a loving new home! I have games, DVDs, books, small figurines, a buttload of cards and various other things up for grabs, so stop by and have a look--you just mind find what you didn't know you were after!
Now, a few rules and tips, the Ten Caravan Commandments, if you will...
1. I accept reservations on all items and will hold them for as long as needed, but the cutoff is obviously when Nomi closes. Please try to pick your item up before the end of Nomi, because I don't want anyone to miss out on something they've looked forward to! I've known that sadness myself... :c
2. Reasonable haggling is allowed, unless otherwise stated. I do feel I've priced my items fairly given their condition, what they usually sell for and/or what I originally paid for them, but if you want to offer something a little lower, feel free to--all I ask is that you don't aim too low. I REALLY have to make space by getting rid of stuff I no longer want or need or am no longer realistically able to keep. I may be the Collector, but I need to learn when to let go of certain things too. I will also allow reasonable bundle prices on 2 or more reserved items, especially if they're items of similar type.
3. Any item that's crossed out has already been reserved, but you can be put on a waiting list, in case a hold is cancelled. Please note that reservation priority will be given to those who commit to an item first--if you say you might like something and then someone else says they definitely want it, the definitely gets the resevation and the maybe goes on the waiting list if they still want it. I will also allow only one backup hold at a time per item. In the event of a person cancelling their hold, the backup person will replace them, at which point a new backup can potentially be added.
4. The thread will be updated as often as possible with new items, so don't forget to keep checking in. The newest items at the time of each update will be listed in red.
5. Reservations are open until 6pm EST on Thursday, May 23, which is also the cutoff for cancellations. This is so I can be sure I have everyone's reserved items accounted for and packed up before leaving home the next day.
6. Please try to have exact cash ready when paying for reserved items. I won't be upset if you don't or anything, it just makes things a bit easier.
7. Please be aware that I'll begin slowly packing up shop about 15 minutes before Nomi officially ends, starting with whatever's clearly not selling this year. Any sales in progress when the signal for Nomi's end is heard will obviously be completed, but no more sales will happen otherwise.
8. If for any reason you end up unable to pick up a reserved item but still want it, I'll be more than happy to arrange a pickup date during the remainder of the con or figure out a way to get it to you at a later date, including the possibility of mailing it to you after the con and arranging for e-transfer payment! Others have been immensely kind enough to do this for me, so I'm returning the favour! :'3
9. You can buy from me knowing that everything comes from a smoke-free environment and I love to keep my hands clean! I'll even be keeping hand sanitizer with me at the table and using some whenever I feel it's needed!
10. A Facebook photo gallery of most items can be found here: www.facebook.com/aj.smerdon/media_set?set=a.1441890609250115.1073741827.100002875703611&type=3 It will be updated whenever possible until the reservation cutoff day. If you want photos of a specific item not yet shown there, please feel free to ask!
Happy shopping! ^o^/
