kngu5) Last year we were 'open' for almost four hours, and the attendance peaked as the start and generally decreased all night. I have heard a lot of theory's that once the Dealers room closes, or the skit contest ends, or some panel or event finishes, a huge influx of new shoppers will rush the Nominoichi. Unfortunately, that has not been the case and most of the people who are lingering in the room at the end of the night are not buying anything anyway. There is also a hard deadline for the building that we have to be finished by so they can lock it up. Therefore, having the Nominoichi running for more hours is not likely to happen. I was on three panels last year. Both ran back to back during nominoichi but I still managed to get some great stuff. Also stuck around for a while and Chris is right by the end of it no one is really buying anything.

Re: Not knowing where something is. That's what your con book is for. They don't print it just for birdcage liner. My worry is how are we going to know the difference between a proper nomi item and someone who got upset they didn't get into dealer room/artist's alley/crafter's corner in time and so try to sell their stuff through nomi? How can you be sure what they're selling is legit?

Please extend the time length of Nominoichi. If I'm going to be there on Friday lugging around all the merchandise, most likely won't be doing anything else. If possible I'd like for Nominoichi to last as long as possible thanks. What about the Nomi sellers who would like to do more things than just sit behind a table for more than 4 hours? I'm curious your thoughts on that. After all, you can show up whenever you want and leave whenever you're tired of being there or want to do something else. They can't.

Just to address a few issues:
The full Nominoichi Rules should be available on the website in March. Probably not on the 1st, but definitely sometime before the 31st.
The prices will be a bit higher than last year, but it's been several years since we had a price increase and it should be manageable. We are also looking at increasing the total number of tables to better respond to demand from the sellers.
The Nominoichi selling rules might be a bit more polished, but they will essentially stay the same. This means that any merchandise that could be sold at any of the other Anime North marketplaces (Comics market, Crafters corner, Doll North Marketplace, or Fashion Swap) will not be sold at the Nominoichi. Furthermore, all the other selling rules (Like the 50-50 rule and the limited types of non-anime goods) will still apply. This should result in all tables looking like Nominoichi tables anyway, regardless of who the seller is!
Furthermore, we currently prevent people with a "dealers" badge from participating as a seller at the Nominoichi. If anyone has another idea to prevent them from joining the Nominoichi please share it here, or send it to me in an email.
And finally about "want-to-buy" lists. I am thinking about preventing them this year. Sellers with registered tables are of course welcome and encouraged to post lists of what they are selling, and if you are searching for something, I encourage you to look over those lists. However, posting a want-to-buy list could be seen as an invitation to private selling; and that is both against the Nominoichi forum rules and it could result in the loss of your Anime North badge.

What about the idea of providing plastic bags for buyers?

quick question re: selling things that would be available elsewhere
does that mean if i have NIB dolls that i want to sell (specifically monster high dolls), as well as some manga, does that mean i would not be eligible to sell in nomi? just trying to get some clarification

A great question.
The manga would absolutely be allowed. Selling used licensed anime merchandise is exactly what the Nominoichi is about.
The Dolls however, may not be allowed. Anime north has another marketplace (Doll North) that deals exclusively with the selling of dolls and doll accessories. If the dolls could be sold there, then you can't sell them here.
However, if for some reason the Doll North marketplace does not allow those dolls to be sold there, and providing if they are from one of the following 7 predefined categories: Fantasy, Games, Japanese Culture, Music, Other Animated, SCI-FI, or Super Hero, then yes, you could sell them at the Nominoichi.

Along with boxes of anime, manga, action figures and other merchandise, I have a number of old cosplay costumes. I asked a friend about doing Nomi this year and she told them the costumes may not be permitted because they count as crafts (even though I'd created them for my own use and am essentially just selling them second-hand.) I have never done Nomi before. Is there an official policy on this?

I have tons of MLP trading cards that I'm looking to sell and get rid of. As in, hundreds, and they will probably exceed anything else that we're selling. What should I do?

Okay, so I have a sort of strange question. Because as you have worded it '50-50 rule and the limited types of non-anime goods' Does this only include Japanese animation goods as I'll be bringing some StarTreck/StarWars Lego sets and some Japanese goods as I did last year and under the common definition of Anime (Japanese animation) will not be including the Sci-fi, some Japanese video games (not-based on anime) and the 'culture' part of some of the items I plan to bring. Do the following mentioned included in the allowed 50%? Thanks. Sincerely, Cookies12113

Here is a brief overview of the 50-50 rule.
At least 50%, or more, of all items for sale must be authentic licensed anime merchandise. The remaining 50%, or less, can be other items. 50% Anime and 50% everything else, combined.
However, 'everything else' is not the same as 'anything else'. These other items must fall under one, or more, of the following categories: Fantasy, Games, Japanese Culture, Music, Other Animated, SCI-FI, or Super Hero.
Therefore selling some Star Trek and Star Wars items (both are SCI-FI) would be acceptable, as long as you have MORE real anime good to sell as well. But selling things like printers and fabric would not be allowed because they don't fall under any of the seven categories, regardless of the amount of real anime good you are also selling.
The full rules should be on the website soon and they will have more details about the rules of what you can and can't sell, and then if you still have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Last year I went to Nominoichi and I thought it was great! (Though I've gone to AN for several years I've always been doing other things). I plan to sell this year, possibly with a friend. And I have a quick question; would selling Shounen Jump magazines count as manga? They are mostly manga and are licensed by Shounen Jump which is a manga publisher. Other then that all my other stuff is licensed merchandise and some cosplay items and accessories!
